What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are thin veneers that are fixed on the front surfaces of the teeth in order to beautify the smile. It is the least invasive method for changing the color, shape and position of the teeth. They allow you to beautify your smile with minimal grinding or even completely without grinding your teeth. If grinding the teeth is necessary, it is insignificant, often less than 0.4 mm. It is very important that when making a dental veneer, the entire enamel is not sanded, because they are best attached to the enamel of the tooth.

Who are dental veneers for?
The ideal target group for dental veneers are patients who have all the teeth, i.e. who do not have fillings, i.e. crowns. It is not possible to make a veneer on a tooth that has already been sanded for a dental crown, but only a new crown. In practice, it is not uncommon to combine dental veneers and crowns to get perfect results.
Dental veneers are intended for people who regularly and properly maintain oral hygiene, do not have harmful habits such as biting hard objects and who come for regular dental check-ups.

When can we use dental veneers?
Whether they are ceramic or composite veneers, they have a number of advantages:
- cover and repair damaged and partially broken teeth;
- close the spaces (diastema) between the teeth;
- correct the position of slightly moved or slightly rotated teeth;
- permanently change the color of the teeth, the so-called “permanent bleaching”;
- dental veneers can change the shape and size of the teeth. Teeth can be longer or wider, more triangular / square, etc.
- for slightly worn or abraded teeth, dental veneers can mimic the previous natural shape of the teeth
- they are long-lasting, beautiful and significantly increase the patient’s self-confidence. You should use them whenever you are not satisfied with your smile
Dental veneers – you need to know
They are quite sensitive and in order to be long-lasting, they must be properly planned.
Once the veneers are placed, we can remove them, but after the removal, you will not have a tooth as if nothing existed on it. Namely, both composite and ceramic veneers are glued to tooth enamel and that connection is very strong. There is no possibility to remove dental veneers without damaging the surface layer of enamel. So once the veneers are installed, they can be removed, but then it will be necessary to make new ones.
The procedure for making veneers is not simple. Although they are thin scales and “only” stick to the surface of the teeth, in the background there is an extremely extensive and delicate job to get a perfect smile.
Dental veneers have their own special cementation system, which is also not simple. It requires expensive materials and the full attention and concentration of a doctor.
If your veneers are oversized and unpolished, especially in the neck of the teeth, they will retain food and prevent proper cleaning. As a consequence of the accumulation of bacteria and plaque, inflammation of the gums will appear, which then become painful, red, swollen and bleed at the slightest touch. In our office, we pay great attention to the relationship between dental veneers and gums, and we do not have such health and aesthetic complications.
Of course, we cannot correct larger overlaps or rotations of teeth with dental veneers. In such situations, we suggest different solutions.
In people who gnash or clench their teeth (bruxists) or in those who have bite irregularities, it is possible to do veneers, but only after the reconstruction and stabilization of the entire occlusion.
Dental veneers – what types are there?
Dental veneers can be made of composite – composite veneers or ceramic – ceramic veneers. Read below for basic information.
Ceramic veneers are thin veneers that cover the front surface and the cutting edge of the tooth. In some situations, they can cover a smaller or larger part of the inner or side surfaces of the teeth.
Ceramic lumineers are practically slightly thinner veneers.
Ceramic veneers are made of metal-free ceramic systems that can give high aesthetic results without reducing the resistance of the veneer in the mouth. They are made in the office or dental laboratory using press technology or computerized CAD-CAM technology.
Ceramic veneers, unlike composite ones, require a longer production time (indirect method).
No-prep veneers are very thin and solid veneers for teeth. No grinding of the teeth is required for their production, but the indications are narrowed. They are usually combined with other types of veneers.
Composite veneers for teeth are made in the office, in one visit, by the technique of direct modeling on the tooth or by the injection technique. With the development of technology, composite veneers obtained by printing are increasingly used.
There are also factory-made composite veneers that are ready to be cemented to the teeth. They can be found on the market in different sizes, which are chosen individually according to the patient’s wishes. They are smooth and glazed, usually light uniform in color. Minimal corrections are possible, but in general, the shape of the teeth and the size are already determined at the factory.
Which dental veneers should I choose?
Another dilemma for patients is which type of veneer to choose. Our suggestion is that, whenever possible, they are made of ceramic materials. Such dental veneers require a longer production time, include printing or scanning of the teeth and the work of the dental laboratory. They more faithfully copy the aesthetic characteristics of natural teeth, they are more resistant and long-lasting.
Dental veneers – price
Dental veneers have different prices that primarily depend on the type of material and the manufacturing technique.
The production of the ceramic veneer itself is much more complex, it requires expensive equipment, materials and incomparably more time spent by doctors and dental technicians, and its price is higher than the composite veneer.
Composite veneers for teeth have a simpler production, they last shorter and their price is lower.
Within composite veneers, prices are different in relation to the manufacturing technique (direct modeling, injection technique, print technique or factory-finished veneers).
The price of a composite dental veneer is from 50 eur to 150 eur and ceramic from 270 eur to 500 eur.
